UK's Medical Research Council invests £90 million to support 200 researchers in universities

The Medical Research Council (MRC), a UK public funding organisation, has announced it will invest £90 million (€104.65m) to support researchers who will undertake PhDs and gain experience in academia, healthcare and industry across the country.

Fourteen MRC Doctoral Landscape Awards (DLA) will support over 200 researchers a year for the next three years at UK universities, the organisation said on 24/09/2026.

The awards support PhD research across the breadth of medical science, from discovery to early translation, and awardees will start their PhDs in October 2027.

"As part of their PhDs, researchers will work with businesses, NHS organisations, charities and public sector partners through placements, collaborative projects and specialist training," the MRC indicated.
