Report highlights institutional imbalance in Erasmus+ governance

A report has stated that there was an institutional imbalance in the governance of the Erasmus+ programme.

Published on 23/09/2026, a European University Foundation (EUF) policy note, “Strengthening Monitoring, Parliamentary Oversight and Stakeholder Inclusion in the Implementation of the Erasmus+ Programme”, found that there was an information asymmetry between the European Commission, the European Parliament and those working on the ground on the programme.

The document also revealed a predominantly ex post nature of parliamentary oversight, as well as the structural separation between technical monitoring and democratic accountability.
