European Degree label aims to boost visibility of joint programmes, Commission civil servant says

A European Commission official said the European Degree label aims to provide greater visibility and coherent branding for joint programmes.

The European Commission organised a webinar on the Joint European Degree Label on 24/09/2026. Yann-Maël Bideau, Team Leader for European Universities Alliances in the higher education unit of the DG EAC, stated: "The purpose of the label is to provide visibility and prestige to the object that is receiving the label, in this case the joint programmes."

Bideau argued that Europe’s tradition of cross-border cooperation gave it a distinctive position internationally, allowing students to gain experience across different academic systems, cultures and countries.
