The European Commission has announced the winners of the 2026 edition of the Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT) Innovation Prize.

The Commission awarded €50,000 to the ‘Renaissance Fusion’ start-up in France for its Lasermag project, originating from R&I, on 22/09/2026.

The EU institution presented it as "a breakthrough in the fabrication and assembly of High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets, using laser-engraving of wide tapes and winding them into magnetic coils".

The second and third prizes also went to two teams from Germany:
• to Forschungszentrum Jülich for their Miami project (€30,000);
• to Karlsruhe Institute of Technology for the microRaman project (€ 20,000).
