The European Commission has announced the winners of the 2026 edition of the Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT) Innovation Prize.

The Commission awarded €50,000 to the ‘Renaissance Fusion’ start-up in France for its Lasermag project, originating from R&I, on 22/09/2026.

The EU institution presented it as "a breakthrough in the fabrication and assembly of High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets, using laser-engraving of wide tapes and winding them into magnetic coils".

The second and third prizes also went to two teams from Germany:
• to Forschungszentrum Jülich for their Miami project (€30,000);
• to Karlsruhe Institute of Technology for the microRaman project (€ 20,000).

This award recognises proposals that encourage collaboration between researchers and industry. It supports innovative fusion research ideas with market potential. The European Union funds the SOFT Innovation Prize through the Euratom Research and Training Programme.
