ERC will establish a new thematic evaluation panel on artificial intelligence

The European Research Council (ERC) has planned to establish a new thematic evaluation panel on Fundamentals of AI.

On 29/09/2026, the ERC announced the creation of the new PE12 panel, which will begin with the 2028 ERC calls in the next framework programme.

The aim of the ERC is to respond to the exponential increase in the number of AI-related ERC project proposals, which account for a significant proportion of submissions to the current evaluation panel for computer science (PE6).

The new PE12 scope will cover machine learning, reasoning, intelligent and autonomous systems, computer vision, natural language processing, generative and multimodal AI, as well as the mathematical and statistical principles on which they are based.
