2026 European Semester sets the priorities for the 2028-2034 EU budget

The European Semester package, an annual cycle of economic and budgetary policy coordination that guides member states, has been more relevant than ever in 2026, as it sets the stage for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028-2034, a European Commission civil servant said.

"It's very important to make sure that we accurately get the priorities and recommendations that will guide the preparation of the National Regional Partnership Plans (planning documents proposed by the Commission to manage shared EU funding for the 2028-2034 budget)," Éva-Mária Szávuj, Head of Unit for European Semester and Country Intelligence at the DG Research and Innovation of the European Commission, said on 24/09/2026.
