Alliances explore forming legal entities: "no one-size-fits-all"

European university alliances are exploring different types of legal entities, each with its pros and cons, while the European Commission is working on a specific instrument fitted for alliances.

If a legal entity can even be added as a partner when applying for new funding, allowing alliances to have dedicated funding for joint expenses, their purposes are multiple and depend on each alliance, according to Meritxell Chaves, Secretary General of the CHARM-EU alliance. She answered questions from News Tank on 02/10/2026.

As the leader of the Work Package on Communication & Dissemination at FOREU4ALL, the community of practice for alliances, Chaves said that after a pilot project on legal entities for alliances in 2023, the conclusion seems to be that "there is no one-size-fits-all solution"…
