India expected to join Horizon Europe in January 2027 following conclusion of negotiations

The European Commission and India have concluded negotiations on the South Asian country's association to Horizon Europe.

The Commission announced on 06/11/2026 the successful conclusion of the negotiations, paving the way for the signature of an association agreement, subject to the completion of the necessary procedures on both sides. The association is expected to take effect in January 2027.

Once the agreement is signed, researchers and organisations in India will be able to receive direct funding from Horizon Europe to lead collaborative projects under Pillar II, which is dedicated to collaborative research, entitled "Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness".
